As Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio framed it: "The NFL believes that the placement of Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson on the roster exempt list knocks him out of the first six games of the regular season, even if he is traded. The NFL Players Association believes that a trade removes Jackson from the roster exempt list, cutting his unavailability in half. ..."

Three years after Mike Tomlin ran Willie Parker until his wheels came off, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported on the coach's apparent leaning toward a more prudent approach with his current feature back.
Tomlin confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall, who led the Steelers with 1,108 yards rushing last season, will start and also serve as the primary third-down back as he did for the second half of last season.

According to the Associated Press, Michael Crabtree's sore neck is much better, he insists he's ready to play after missing the entire preseason and the spat last week with teammate Vernon Davis is long since done.
Crabtree, the second-year receiver, will start his first regular-season opener Sunday at Seattle after not joining the team until October last year following a 71-day contract stalemate by the 10th-overall draft pick in 2009.
